Lauretta combines great doc audio technique with tremendous empathy, discretion and tact to a degree quite rare in the video world these days.  I recommend her without reservation, as does every other sound editor and re-recording mixer I know.

Equipment

There is an old adage, "You are as good as your tools." That is certainly true in sound recording. I use the highest quality brands and gear, choosing the right mics for the right situations. [See Services for more specifics on my gear.]

PIVOT in PROGRESS

After experiencing a back injury, I am not currently doing verite style film production, which was my specialty.
I am instead focusing on developing clientele for recording oral histories, personal, organizational, and public. These may or may not include video, and I am open to various degrees of collaboration. I can do interviewing myself, or you may choose a Storycorps style of recording where you interview a family member, friend, colleague or research subject.
I'm very excited to be engaging my skills in a fresh way, and helping you tell your stories.

I am a licensed business owner in Oakland CA. I carry General Liability Insurance as well as my own Workers Compensation Coverage.
I am licensed with the FCC to operate wireless microphone equipment.

Values

Life is short. I particularly welcome working on projects that matter, in service of a greener healthier planet and a more just world. Every little bit of beauty is a good thing. Everyone has a story worth telling.

Strategy

It's a noisy world. I look forward to hearing about your project and how you plan to film it.  We can discuss how best to capture only the sounds you want for a smooth and efficient post production process. In most cases it helps to "keep it simple".

About

I started my career at a PBS station as an assistant editor. Being tasked with the clean up of flawed production sound was excellent training for doing production audio. I've spent 35 years getting that clean audio for film and video. Now I'm interested in doing that while capturing stories in alternative ways, less tied to the film industry.
Lauretta is among one of the best location recorders I know. I’ve worked with her tracks as a sound mixer for years and they always stand out as excellent.
